Breaking: Reporter Asks Ted Cruz If It’s Time for Gun Control — His Response Flips the Argument on Its Head

On Sunday, a man named Devin Kelley opened fire on a small Texas church using a “Ruger AR-type of assault rifle” and killed 26 people. Since the catastrophe, politicians, celebrities, and activists have urged President Donald Trump and politicians in Congress to do something about gun control.
Many have even stated that “thoughts and prayers” aren’t enough.
To all the politicians offering thoughts and prayers as they deposit their money from the NRA, these people WERE praying when they died, so maybe let’s start somewhere else this time. Now is the time for sensible gun legislation.
If politicians had given more than just thoughts and prayers after the last mass shooting then maybe Texas massacre might not have happened.
But now, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is responding to the push for gun control in a brilliant, classy way. During a press conference in Texas, a reporter asked Cruz if it was time for gun control.
Cruz responded:
“It is an unfortunate thing that the immediate place the media goes after any tragedy, after any murder is politicizing it. We don’t need politics right now. You know, I would note in New York, we saw a terror attack just this week with a truck. Evil is evil is evil. And will use the weaponry available.
One of the most inspirational aspects in the face of this horror was that an ordinary citizen stepped forward to engage the gunman. Heard about what was happening and just in the moments that it transpired, went got his own rifle and engaged the gunman in an active gunfire.
I’ve toured the crime scene just a few minutes ago. Saw where that private citizen hid behind a car and took incoming shots from the gunman behind him, and — because of that individual’s bravery, shot the gunman. And as a result, stopped this murder spree.”
Then the reporter asked if there needed to be a change in gun laws, and Cruz responded:
“It is predictable. There is a reason why there is public distrust of the media. Because the immediate focus is on a political agenda of gun control. I can say this. The private citizen who used his own rifle saved lives today. This individual was a sick, deranged murderer.”
